アリについての本をめくってみると、驚いたことに、この星の上には、ものすごい数のアリが住んでいて、星に住む全部のアリの体重を足すと、星に住む全部の人間の体重を足した重さよりも、重いらしいのでした。そんなにたくさんのアリたちが、この星の上で働いていて、この星の環境を壊しているかというと、全く反対で、アリたちが働くと、土や、他の動物たちや、植物たちの、ためになっているのらしいのでした。アリたちの働き方について考えてみました。ある種類のアリたちは、仲間から栄養分を求められると、かならず、自分が半分消化した栄養分をあげて、お互いを助けあって生きているらしいのでした。少なくともアリの脳は、「他のアリがお腹を空かせているのは、そのアリの自己責任」などという考え方はしないようでした。そうやってアリたちは、何百万年も星と共存共栄してきたのでした。「俺たちの数が増えすぎてしまったから、星の環境を壊すのが当たり前なのだ」などと、人間たちのように開き直る様子もありません。
